Connected defibrillators

WiFi vs non WiFi defibrillator: one checks itself, one needs you

A connected unit reports its own status. A unit without WiFi waits for someone to walk past it.

The ZOLL AED 3 reports its status over WiFi to ZOLL PlusTrac.

A defibrillator spends years doing nothing, then it has one job. The worry is not whether it works out of the box. It is whether anyone has looked at it since. Batteries reach the end of their life, pads pass their date, and units get moved to another floor after the person who checked them has left. That is the question behind WiFi vs non WiFi defibrillator searches: who knows this unit is ready, and how much of that job can the unit do for you? Integrity HS supplies both kinds, so here is the plain comparison.

What is the difference between a WiFi and a non WiFi defibrillator?

A WiFi defibrillator reports its own status to an online AED program, so a fault or an approaching expiry date shows up without anyone visiting the unit. A non WiFi defibrillator is not connected to anything, so a person checks it instead. Here that is the ZOLL AED 3 at $2,895 and the HeartSine Samaritan 360P at $1,575.

Connected, and it reports on itself

The AED 3 suits an organisation with more than one unit to look after: several floors, a few branches, or depots nobody visits in a normal week. If you keep a spreadsheet of expiry dates for sites you rarely see, this is built for that problem.

  • Status comes to you, not the other way roundProgram Management Onboard connects over WiFi to ZOLL PlusTrac, an AED program manager, so a unit's condition is reported rather than discovered on a visit.
  • No walk-round inspection to rosterZOLL states on the product page that no maintenance inspections are needed, which lifts a recurring job off whoever currently owns the checklist.
  • Coaching on every compressionReal CPR Help gives audible feedback in real time as the rescuer pushes, and Rapid Shock Analysis keeps the pause before a shock short.
  • One pad set covers adults and childrenThe CPR Uni-padz are universal. For a child you reposition the pads and select child mode, so there is no second pad set to buy, store or watch the date on.
  • Five years between consumable changesThe battery has a five-year installed life and the Uni-padz a five-year shelf life, both $226. The unit itself carries a seven-year warranty.

HeartSine Samaritan 360P fully automatic defibrillator with the Pad-Pak cartridge fitted

HeartSine Samaritan 360P Fully Automatic Defibrillator

Not connected, and easy to keep ready

The 360P suits a single site with a clear owner: a clubroom, a small workshop, a reception desk, a boat. Someone sees the unit most days, so a dashboard would only tell them what is already in front of them. The upkeep is one cartridge and one date.

  • Readiness is one date, not severalThe Pad-Pak carries the battery and the electrodes in a single cartridge with one printed expiry and a four-year life, so a check means reading one date.
  • The unit makes the shock decisionIt is fully automatic. It reads the heart rhythm, warns everyone to stand clear and delivers the shock itself, so there is no button for a frightened bystander to hesitate over.
  • Small enough to bring to the patient1.1 kg and 20 x 18.4 x 4.8 cm with the Pad-Pak in, so it lifts off a wall bracket one-handed and travels in a kit bag when it has to.
  • Built for dust and sprayAn IP56 rating means dust cannot get in and water sprayed from any direction will not stop it. It runs from 0°C to 50°C and is compliant for aircraft and marine use.
  • Eight-year warranty, and a cartridge back after a rescueHeartSine covers the unit for eight years and replaces the Pad-Pak free of charge after genuine use, conditions apply.

WiFi vs non WiFi defibrillator, row by row

Connectivity and upkeep lead, because that is what this search is about. The rows underneath differ for reasons that have nothing to do with WiFi, which is worth knowing before you read anything into the prices.

Where connectivity earns its keep

WiFi is worth paying for in some buildings and pointless in others. Three situations cover most of the calls we take on this.

Twelve units across six sites

Your defibrillators sit in branches, depots and stairwells that nobody passes on a normal day. The monthly check is somebody's fifth priority, and an expired battery usually surfaces in an audit rather than on the wall.

Choose the ZOLL AED 3. Program Management Onboard reports each unit's condition over WiFi, so nobody has to drive anywhere to find out.

One unit and one keyholder

There is a single defibrillator, it has lived on the same bracket for years, and the same person opens up every morning. Reporting would only repeat what they can already see.

Choose the HeartSine 360P. One cartridge means one expiry date in the diary, which is a routine one person can hold on their own.

The boat or the remote depot

Out on the water, on a remote site or down in a basement car park, there is no reliable network for a unit to report over. A connection you cannot use is not worth carrying.

Choose the HeartSine 360P. It is sealed to IP56, compliant for aircraft and marine use, and asks for nothing more than a look at the cartridge date.

Want the same question inside one brand? Our LIFEPAK CR2 WiFi vs non WiFi page puts two versions of the same unit side by side. If you are still drawing up a shortlist, our AEDs page walks through choosing one for a workplace, and the portable defibrillator page covers the units that travel.

Questions buyers ask about connected units

What does WiFi actually do on a defibrillator?

It reports, and that is all it does. The ZOLL AED 3 uses Program Management Onboard to connect over WiFi to ZOLL PlusTrac, an AED program manager, so the condition of every unit is visible without a site visit. The analysis, the shock and the voice prompts are all handled inside the unit and do not depend on a network.

Will a connected defibrillator still work if the network drops out?

Yes. Connectivity is for reporting, not for rescuing. A ZOLL AED 3 with no signal still reads the rhythm, charges and delivers the shock, and Real CPR Help still coaches the compressions out loud. What you lose while it is offline is the reporting, so the unit's status stops reaching your AED program until it connects again.

Is a non WiFi defibrillator harder to look after?

Not harder, just manual. The HeartSine Samaritan 360P is not connected, so somebody at the site confirms it is ready. The Pad-Pak makes that short work, because the battery and the electrodes sit in one cartridge with a single expiry date and a four-year life, so one entry in the diary covers both. Integrity HS also audits defibrillators you already own, free of charge.

Does a WiFi defibrillator cost more?

On this pair, yes, but connectivity is not the only thing separating them. The ZOLL AED 3 is $2,895 and the HeartSine Samaritan 360P is $1,575, down from $3,540 and $1,995, both with free shipping. The AED 3 also brings compression feedback and a bigger body. Call 1300 720 024 for pricing across several sites.

Can both of these units be used on a child?

Yes. The ZOLL AED 3 uses CPR Uni-padz, a universal adult and paediatric set, so you reposition the pads and select child mode with no second set to buy. The HeartSine Samaritan 360P takes a separate Paediatric-Pak for a child aged 1 to 8 or under 25 kg, which delivers a lower 50 joule shock. Schools usually keep one beside the unit.
