The LIFEPAK CR2 4G Cellular. The WIFI model is the same 2 kg unit with a different way of reporting in.

You have chosen the LIFEPAK CR2 and hit the last decision: LIFEPAK CR2 4G vs WIFI. Both are connected units, so the question is not whether the defibrillator can report on itself. It is how the report gets out of the building. A Wi-Fi unit needs your network to reach the spot where the defibrillator hangs. A 4G unit carries its own connection, which matters once the unit lives in a vehicle, an outdoor cabinet or a depot with no coverage from the office router. Answer that one question and the rest of the choice falls into place.

What is the difference between the LIFEPAK CR2 4G and WIFI?

They are the same fully automatic LIFEPAK CR2: 2 kg, IP55, eight-year warranty, child mode button. The WIFI model reports readiness to LIFELINKcentral over your own Wi-Fi. The 4G model uses the mobile network as well, so it works where no Wi-Fi reaches, and it sends real-time alerts when it is used.

Brings its own connection

The 4G suits defibrillators that live away from a desk: service vehicles, outdoor cabinets, farms, depots and any site where the Wi-Fi stops at the office door. It also suits a fleet spread across several addresses, because every unit reports to the same place without touching anyone's network.

  • Reports in with no Wi-Fi at allIt connects to LIFELINKcentral over the mobile network, and over Wi-Fi where there is some, so a unit in a ute or a roadside cabinet is still monitored.
  • You hear about a rescue as it happensReal-time notifications tell you the moment the unit is used or needs service, so you can send help and reorder pads without waiting for someone to phone in.
  • It tells you when it wanders offGeolocation shows where each unit is, and the AED Locator alert fires if one is moved outside a radius you set. Useful for a shared cabinet or a vehicle pool.
  • Coaching that does not stop the compressionscprINSIGHT reads the heart rhythm while CPR continues, so nobody has to pause, and cprCOACH gives feedback on depth and technique. Time to shock after CPR is under 13 seconds.
  • Maintenance that looks after itselfExpiry dates are tracked automatically, software updates arrive remotely, and the unit self-tests daily, weekly and monthly. All data is stored in Australia.

LIFEPAK CR2 Defibrillator WIFI Fully Automatic

Uses the network you already pay for

The WIFI model suits a building where the wireless already reaches the wall the defibrillator hangs on: an office, a school, a clinic, a gym, a warehouse with decent coverage. One or two known addresses, an IT team happy to put a device on the network, and readiness reporting without a second connection to manage.

  • Readiness checks nobody has to walk toThe unit reports its status to LIFELINKcentral over your Wi-Fi, so the battery and pad check happens on its own instead of landing on a first aid officer's list.
  • Analysis while CPR continuescprINSIGHT assesses the heart rhythm during chest compressions, so the rescuer is not told to stop and stand back while the unit thinks.
  • Heard over a noisy roomClearVoice listens to the background noise and lifts the volume of the prompts to suit, which matters in a workshop, a gym or a crowded foyer.
  • Pad changes take secondsQUIK-STEP electrodes peel straight off the base of the unit, so replacing them after a rescue or an expiry date is quick and hard to get wrong.
  • Adults and children, eight years of coverA child mode button drops the energy for a child aged 1 to 8 or under 25 kg with no pad change, and the manufacturer warranty runs eight years.

Where each connected CR2 earns its keep

Where the unit will hang decides this, not the feature list. Three situations cover most of the calls we take.

The work vehicle or mobile crew

The defibrillator travels with a service van, a farm ute or a crew that moves between jobs. There is no network to join, and the unit is out of sight of anyone who might check it.

Choose the 4G. It reports over the mobile network from wherever it happens to be parked that week.

The office, school or clinic

The unit hangs in a foyer or a corridor, the wireless already reaches that wall, and your IT team is comfortable putting one more device on the guest network.

Choose the WIFI. The connection you already pay for does the readiness reporting, and the unit costs $120 less.

The outdoor cabinet or unattended site

A cabinet on a wall outside, a remote depot, a community sports ground. Nobody is assigned to inspect it, and it could be borrowed or moved without a word.

Choose the 4G. Real-time alerts and the AED Locator radius mean you find out about a use or a move the same day.

Questions buyers ask about the connected CR2

Do I need my own Wi-Fi for the LIFEPAK CR2 4G?

No. The 4G model connects to LIFELINKcentral over the mobile network, and it can use Wi-Fi as well where a network is available. That is the practical reason people buy it: a defibrillator in a vehicle, an outdoor cabinet or a remote depot still reports its readiness and still raises an alert when it is used.

How much more is the LIFEPAK CR2 4G than the WIFI model?

The LIFEPAK CR2 4G Cellular is $2,895 and the LIFEPAK CR2 WIFI is $2,775, a difference of $120. Both include free shipping, and both are reduced from their former prices of $3,595 and $3,295. Ongoing costs are the same, because the battery, the pads and the eight-year warranty are identical.

What does LIFELINKcentral actually tell me?

It is the LIFEPAK AED program manager, and both connected CR2 models report their readiness to it. The 4G model adds automatic expiry tracking, geolocation, remote software updates, an AED Locator alert if a unit is moved outside a radius you set, and a real-time notification when the unit is used or needs service. Data is stored in Australia.

Do the 4G and WIFI models use the same battery and pads?

Yes. Every LIFEPAK CR2 takes the same consumables. The CR2 lithium battery is $325.82 and lasts four years, and the replacement pads are $178 with a four-year shelf life. The pads cover adults and children. A site running both models only needs one set of spares on the shelf.

Can the LIFEPAK CR2 be used on a child?

Yes, and there is no second pad set to buy. Both models have a child mode button that delivers a lower energy shock for a child aged 1 to 8, or under 25 kg, using the pads already fitted. On the 4G model the child setting runs from 35 to 90 joules, against 150 to 360 joules for an adult. Press the button and the unit does the rest.
