HeartSine vs LIFEPAK defibrillator: one is lighter, one does more

Both carry an eight-year warranty. The difference is weight, child mode and what you reorder every four years.

Two names come up on almost every shortlist we see, and the HeartSine vs LIFEPAK defibrillator question is usually where the decision stalls. The units on this page are both fully automatic, both carry an eight-year manufacturer warranty, and both are bought for places where the rescuer will be whoever happens to be standing there. What separates them is the weight someone has to lift, what the unit does while compressions are going on, and what turns up on the purchase order four years from now. Integrity HS is Indigenous-owned and was founded by intensive care paramedics, so here is the plain version.

What is the difference between a HeartSine and a LIFEPAK defibrillator?

The HeartSine Samaritan 360P weighs 1.1 kg and runs on a single Pad-Pak cartridge holding battery and pads under one expiry date. The LIFEPAK CR2 Essential weighs 2 kg, adds a child mode button and cprINSIGHT, which reads the heart rhythm while compressions continue. Both are fully automatic with eight-year warranties.

HeartSine Samaritan 360P Fully Automatic Defibrillator

The lighter unit, with one part to reorder

The 360P suits buyers who want the defibrillator to be easy to lift, easy to carry and easy to keep on top of. Sporting clubs, small offices, community halls, and any organisation where one person quietly looks after the expiry dates for several sites.

  • Half the weight to pick up and run with1.1 kg with the Pad-Pak in and 20 x 18.4 x 4.8 cm. It comes off a bracket one handed and fits a kit bag when it has to travel.
  • One cartridge, one date in the diaryThe Pad-Pak holds the battery and the electrodes together with a four-year life and a single expiry date, so there is one item to reorder at $249.
  • A free Pad-Pak after a real rescueHeartSine replaces the cartridge at no charge when the unit has been used on someone, conditions apply, so saving a life does not arrive as an invoice.
  • Nobody has to press shockFully automatic means it reads the rhythm, calls everyone clear and delivers the shock itself, while voice prompts and a metronome set the compression rhythm.
  • Eight years of cover, sealed to IP56IP56 means dust cannot get in and sprayed water will not stop it. It runs from 0°C to 50°C and is aircraft and marine compliant.

LIFEPAK CR2 Fully Automatic Defibrillator, Essential Non WIFI

The unit with a child mode button

The CR2 Essential suits sites where children are present, where the room is loud, or where a first aid team wants the unit doing more of the thinking. Schools, childcare centres, workshops, gyms and busy retail floors. Essential means no Wi-Fi reporting, which keeps the price down.

  • A button for children, not a second cartridgePress child mode for a child aged 1 to 8 or under 25 kg and the unit delivers a lower energy shock through the same pads. Nothing to swap, nothing extra to store.
  • Compressions keep going while it reads the heartcprINSIGHT analyses the rhythm during chest compressions, so the rescuer is not told to stand back and wait while the analysis runs.
  • It lifts its voice when the room is loudClearVoice picks up the background noise and raises the volume to match, which is the difference between hearing the next instruction and guessing at it.
  • Pads that come off in one movementQUIK-STEP electrodes peel away from the base of the unit, so replacing them after a rescue or an expiry date takes seconds rather than a service visit.
  • Eight years of cover, sealed to IP55IP55 means dust is kept out and a spray of water will not stop it. The unit is 2 kg and 22.6 x 22.6 x 9.7 cm, sized for a wall cabinet.

HeartSine vs LIFEPAK defibrillator, side by side

Weight, children and consumables lead, because those are the rows that change how the unit is used and what it costs to keep. Neither model wins the table. They are built for different rooms.

Which one suits where it has to live

Picture the room and the person who will be holding the unit. That settles this comparison faster than any spec table.

The school, childcare centre or swim club

Children are the reason the unit is there, and the rescuer will be a teacher or a parent with a crowd behind them. Asking that person to find a second cartridge and fit it is asking too much.

Choose the LIFEPAK CR2. One button drops it to a child setting on the same pads, with nothing to swap and nothing extra to buy.

The team that carries its own kit

Coaches, event crews, trainers and site supervisors move their gear by hand, sometimes across a paddock. Anything heavy ends up in the shed, which is no use to anybody.

Choose the HeartSine 360P. At 1.1 kg and 4.8 cm thick it goes in the bag that is already being carried, and it is aircraft and marine compliant.

Several sites, one person tracking the dates

Six offices, one safety officer, a spreadsheet and a calendar reminder. The real risk here is not the hardware. It is an expiry date that slipped past two years ago.

Choose the HeartSine 360P. One Pad-Pak holds the battery and the pads under a single date, so each site is one line and one reorder.

What buyers ask us about these two brands

Which is better for a workplace, HeartSine or LIFEPAK?

Neither is better across the board, and any supplier who says otherwise is guessing about your site. The HeartSine Samaritan 360P is the one to pick when the unit has to be carried or when one person tracks expiry dates across several locations. The LIFEPAK CR2 Essential is the one to pick when children are on site or the room is noisy.

Which costs less to keep running, the HeartSine 360P or the LIFEPAK CR2?

The HeartSine 360P takes one Pad-Pak at $249, which carries the battery and the pads together for four years. The LIFEPAK CR2 takes a battery at $325.82 and a set of pads at $178, also four years each, so the four-year total is $503.82. Call 1300 720 024 for quantity pricing.

Can a LIFEPAK CR2 be used on a child?

Yes. The CR2 has a child mode button on the unit that delivers a lower energy shock through the same pads, for a child aged 1 to 8 or under 25 kg. The HeartSine 360P handles children differently: you fit a Paediatric-Pak cartridge in place of the adult Pad-Pak, which costs $299 and needs to be kept with the unit.

Do you have to stop CPR while the defibrillator analyses the heart?

With the LIFEPAK CR2, cprINSIGHT analyses the heart rhythm while chest compressions carry on, so the rescuer is not asked to stand back and wait. The HeartSine 360P follows the usual pattern: it asks everyone to stop and stand clear while it reads the rhythm, then guides compressions with voice prompts and a metronome afterwards.

Are these units available as semi automatic models?

Yes. Both the HeartSine Samaritan 360P and the LIFEPAK CR2 are available in a semi automatic version on request, which means the unit charges and then the rescuer presses the shock button rather than the unit doing it. There is no published price for those versions, so call Integrity HS on 1300 720 024 and we will quote them.
