The ZOLL AED Plus battery set: ten Duracell 123A lithium cells, sold as one sleeve.

You have looked at the AED Plus on the wall and realised nobody can say when its batteries went in. Or the five years are up and it is on your list this week. Either way the ZOLL AED Plus battery question is simpler than it looks. The AED Plus does not use a sealed battery pack. It runs on ten standard 123A lithium cells, sold as one sleeve, and the pads that sit in the lid carry the same five-year life. Integrity HS stocks both, so here is what to order and when.

Which ZOLL AED Plus battery do I need, and how long does it last?

The ZOLL AED Plus runs on ten Duracell 123A lithium batteries, sold by Integrity HS as a sleeve of ten for $112.20. Fitted in the unit they have a five-year life. Replace all ten together, and check the CPR-D-padz at the same time, because the pads also carry a five-year shelf life.

10x Lithium 123A Batteries for the ZOLL AED Plus

The complete battery set for one AED Plus

For anyone who owns an AED Plus and is due, or nearly due, to change its batteries. Workplaces, clubs, schools and community groups that bought the unit years ago and now want to keep it ready without booking a service visit.

  • Five years between changesFitted in the AED Plus, the cells have a five-year life, so one sleeve carries the unit all the way to its next scheduled pad change.
  • Everything in one orderThe AED Plus takes ten cells at once. This is the full set of ten Duracell 123A lithium batteries, so there is nothing left to hunt down separately.
  • The same type the unit came withA new AED Plus ships with ten lithium batteries in the box. This sleeve replaces them like for like, with no change to how the unit works.
  • A job your first aid officer can doTen replaceable cells rather than a sealed pack, so the change is something your own staff can handle, then note the date on the unit.
  • Low cost to keep ready$112.20 for the full sleeve. That is the whole battery cost of running the unit for five years.
ZOLL CPR-D-padz adult electrodes for the AED Plus in their sealed pack

ZOLL AED CPR-D Plus Padz Adult Electrodes

The adult pads on the same five-year clock

For the AED Plus owner who would rather do one job than two. A new AED Plus ships with a set of CPR-D-padz and ten batteries in the same box, both with a five-year life, so on a unit bought new they fall due at about the same time.

  • Coaches the rescuer through CPRA sensor in the pad measures each compression and drives Real CPR Help, which tells the rescuer to push harder and shows compression depth on a bar gauge on the unit.
  • One piece, one placementThe CPR-D-padz are a single one-piece electrode, so there is one thing to peel and position on the chest rather than two separate pads to get right.
  • Five years on the shelfA five-year shelf life, matching the battery sleeve, so a unit fitted with both on the same day comes due once and gets one reorder.
  • Keeps the pace upThe AED Plus gives audio and text prompts and an adaptive metronome that guides compressions to at least 100 a minute. The depth feedback depends on the sensor in these pads.
  • Made for this unitCPR-D-padz fit the ZOLL AED Plus only. For a child under 8 or under 25 kg, the AED Plus takes the separate Pedi-padz II, $113, with a two-year shelf life.

Which one do you need for your AED Plus?

Work out what has been changed since the unit arrived. Three situations cover almost every AED Plus consumables order we take.

The batteries are five years old, the pads are newer

The unit has been used, or the pads were replaced after a scare, and a fresh set went in two or three years ago. The batteries were never touched and are now at their five-year mark.

Choose the batteries. Only the sleeve is due. Read the expiry printed on the pad pack, write it on the unit, and reorder the CPR-D-padz when that date comes round.

The unit arrived new five years ago and nothing has been changed

This is the most common call. The AED Plus went on the wall with the batteries and pads it came with, it has never been used, and now the five years are up on both at once.

Choose the batteries and the CPR-D-padz together. Both were fitted on the same day and both carry a five-year life, so one order and one visit to the unit puts it back on a single date.

The pads have been used, or the pack has been opened

Someone has had to use the unit, or a pack was opened and the gel has been exposed. Pads are single-use, so the CPR-D-padz that were on the patient cannot go back in the lid.

Choose the CPR-D-padz. Fit a new sealed set straight away. The batteries stay on their own five-year date, so check when they were fitted and leave them unless that date has passed.

Running a ZOLL AED 3 as well? It takes a different sealed battery and a different pad, and our ZOLL defibrillator pads page matches each pad to each unit. For every other brand we stock, the AED battery and defibrillator pads pages cover the rest of the range. Our AED battery replacement page lists what every unit we stock takes and when each one is due.

Questions AED Plus owners ask about batteries and pads

What batteries does the ZOLL AED Plus use?

The ZOLL AED Plus runs on ten 123A lithium batteries, and Integrity HS supplies them as a sleeve of ten Duracell cells for $112.20. It does not take a sealed battery pack. A new unit ships with ten lithium batteries already in the box, and the replacement sleeve is the same type.

How long does the ZOLL AED Plus battery last?

Fitted in the unit, the ten 123A cells have a five-year life, and the AED Plus warranty covers the battery for five years within its seven-year term. Replace all ten cells together rather than one or two at a time, and write the fitting date on the unit so the next change is not a guess. The CPR-D-padz also last five years, so the two usually fall due close together.

Can I use the ZOLL AED 3 battery in an AED Plus?

No. The two ZOLL units take completely different batteries. The AED 3 uses a sealed lithium manganese dioxide battery, $226, and it fits the AED 3 only. The AED Plus uses ten separate 123A lithium cells in a sleeve. If you run both models, order both types and label the boxes.

Do I need to replace the pads at the same time as the batteries?

Not always, but check. The CPR-D-padz have a five-year shelf life and the batteries have a five-year life in the unit, so on an AED Plus bought new with both, they fall due at about the same time. Read the expiry date printed on the pad pack. If it is within the next year or so, order the CPR-D-padz with the battery sleeve and do one job instead of two.

Which pads fit the ZOLL AED Plus?

Adults use the ZOLL CPR-D-padz, a one-piece electrode with a compression sensor, $190 with a five-year shelf life. Children under 8 or under 25 kg use the ZOLL Pedi-padz II, $113 with a two-year shelf life, and the unit switches to its paediatric algorithm when they are connected. Both fit the AED Plus only. The AED 3 uses its own Uni-padz.
